The Sevillian interpreter has died in Madrid after a long illness.

Juan Diego, actor The Holy Innocents (1984) and the series Paco’s Men (2005 – 2021), has died at the age of 79. The interpreter died this Thursday after a long illness, according to reports The country Y The Newspaper of Spain from family sources. A few days ago, Juan Diego was hospitalized in the Zarzuela Clinic in Madrid where he died this morning.

Juan Diego Ruiz Moreno, born in Bormujos (Seville) on December 14, 1942, he began his acting career in 1957. It was in 1963 when he made the leap to television series with My son and I (1963) and Fernandez, Semicolon (1964). Among his best-known titles are The Dark Night (1989), Cow’s Head (1991), Let Me Tell You (1998) and The Life That Awaits You (2004).

Throughout his career, the actor added nine Goya Award nominations, of which he won the award three times. The first Goya was won in 1991 for his role in The Stunned King by Imanol Uribe. The second received it in 1999 thanks to Paris-Timbuktu by Luis Garcia Berlanga. With the last one he rose in 2006 by Go Away From Me by Victor Garcia Leon. For the latter title he also received the silver shell a best Actor at the San Sebastian Festival.

Juan Diego recently brought to life one of his most famous characters, Don Lorenzo in the last season of Paco’s men. The fiction, starring Paco Tous, Michelle Jenner and Hugo Silva, was a television phenomenon in the early 2000s.

Juan Diego’s films to be released are Venus and Stories and the last works he has done in cinema are Extreme Y the Cover.

Outside the world of cinema, Juan Diego was involved in the politicfrom the country. The actor demonstrated his opposition to the dictatorship and was militant of the PCE since the late 1960s. He also headed the Communist Party’s Art and Culture Commission.
