The actor, known for his role in the famous TF1 series, later met with some success as a director, drawing inspiration from recent police cases.

The actor Yves Rénier , who played between 1976 and 2006 the commissioner Moulin on TF1, is dead, his family announced on Saturday. Aged 78, the actor succumbed to a heart attack overnight at his home in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine), his wife confirmed to AFP.

Still prolific despite his advanced age, Yves Rénier continued to play on television. Viewers were able to see him last Thursday one last time in an episode of Léo Mattei , the TF1 series with Jean-Luc Reichmann.

Son of actor Max Régnier, Yves Rénier began his career in the 1960s, playing in a film adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo . After this first experience, he had painfully linked several films without real success.

Yves Rénier had since appeared in the cinema in Diabolo mint (1977) by Diane Kurys, Frantic (1988) by Roman Polanski, Merci la vie (1990) by Bertrand Blier or even Les Anges gardiens (1995) by Jean-Marie Poiré. Always small roles.

Director in recent years

On television, Yves Rénier had played in Belphégor or the Phantom of the Louvre , the 1965 soap opera with Juliette Gréco. His first success. He then obtained the lead role in the adventure series The Globe-trotters (1966), before landing the role of his life ten years later, that of commissioner Jean-Paul Moulin.

Created in 1976 by Paul Andréota and Claude Boissol, the television series was interrupted in 1982 before being resumed in 1989 by Yves Rénier and Georges Moréas, author of detective novels and retired ex-commissioner. "The character had to ring true", he confided to the newspaper Le Monde in 1994.

The actor had moved on to directing in recent years with some success, with a series of fictions inspired by recent police cases. We owe him several episodes of Commissioner Moulin , but also Flic quite simply (2016, 6.1 million viewers), on the Guy Georges affair, I just wanted to return home (2017, 3.9 million), on the 'Patrick Dils affair, and Jacqueline Sauvage: It was him or me (2018, 7.91 million), with Muriel Robin.
