Director of photography Giuseppe Pinori died in Rome on April 3. He was born in Tagliacozzo in 1928. His filmography includes significant films of the new auteur cinema such as Ecce bombo by Nanni Moretti, Maledetti vi amerò and La caduta degli angeli ribelli by Marco Tullio Giordana. He has collaborated with directors such as Pier Paolo Pasolini, Lucio Fulci and Romano Scavolini. He has taught Photography for Cinema at the Cinecittà Cinema Academy (ACT Multimedia), together with Franco Di Giacomo.
Artdigiland in 2019 published a monographic volume on his work: Giuseppe Pinori, Light as a companion. Travels, encounters and miracles by an author of cinematography, curated by Carolina Mascolo and Caterina Sabato, and made in collaboration with Luce Cinecittà.
After his apprenticeship with Fernando Cerchio, he participated in the adventurous season of documentaries made alongside Piero Nelli, Ansano Giannarelli and Marina Piperno, in the investigative films of Cesare Zavattini and Enzo Biagi, to make his debut in the feature film with the Taviani brothers for Sotto il segno dello scorpione in 1969, their first color film. Then there is the partnership with Valentino Orsini, the experiences in genre cinema, with (among others) Duccio Tessari and Lucio Fulci, the constant presence in auteur cinema, alongside Maurizio Costanzo, Luigi Mangini, Samy Pavel Nanni Moretti, Marco Tullio Giordana, Giuliano Montaldo, Roberto Faenza.
He is next to Giorgio Albertazzi for his film as director Gli angeli del potere (1989) and develops a great friendship with Romano Scavolini. Among the many faces of great actors illuminated by Pinori, who also loved to photograph on the set: Mario Adorf, Tina Aumont, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Lucia Bosè, Barbara Bouchet, Giulio Brogi, Flavio Bucci, Piera Degli Esposti, Gabriele Ferzetti, Giuliano Gemma, Fosco Giachetti, Clio Goldsmith, Leo Gullotta, Alessandro Haber, Harvey Keitel, Philippe Leroy, Vittorio Mezzogiorno, Enrico Montesano, Gianni Morandi, Amedeo Nazzari, Paola Pitagora, Kim Rossi Stuart, Lina Sastri, Renato Scarpa, Rosanna Schiaffino, Gianmaria Volonté, Milena Vukotic.
