Veteran artist Zhang Zheng dies in Vancouver at 90

[Ming Pao News] Senior artist and former president of the Vancouver Film and Television Association Zhang Zheng (formerly known as Zhang Qiaofu) died at Richmond Hospital on January 25 (Vancouver time) at the age of 90. Zhang Zheng was born in Beijing. He studied in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Jiaotong University in Shanghai. He dropped out of school due to his father's illness and came to Hong Kong to join Great Wall Pictures in the 1950s. He has participated in more than 70 films, including the Mandarin films "Thunderstorm", "The Love of Fisherman", "The Peerless Beauty", "The Sons and Daughters of Heroes" and "Qu Yuan". Zhang Zheng also directed films and made documentaries.

Zhang Zheng joined Li's TV in the 1970s, filming the drama "New Chameleon", and cooperating with Dong Piao on "Going to the Tiger Mountain", and later ATV's "Shanghai Fengyun: The Years of Contending", "The Winner Is King", etc.; Immigrated to Canada after filming "The Nine Kings" in 1995. Zhang Zheng was active in the activities of the Vancouver Film and Television Association and served as the president. He also participated in film and television productions outside of the country. In 2013, he cooperated with Michelle Yeoh to film "The Secret Recipe" directed by a Korean director. He also returned to Hong Kong to film "8 Minutes Ahead".

Being honest and enthusiastic about public welfare

When news of Zhang Zheng’s death came out, all the artists he knew expressed regret. The Vancouver Film and Television Association described Zhang Zheng as "a man of integrity, enthusiastic about charity, and actively participating in charitable activities of the Association of Film and Television Artists, doing his best, being friendly and humble. A rare elder, we will always miss him. I hope that Mrs. Zhang Zheng, Grace, can come out of sorrow firmly and change sorrow."

Ou Jintang mourned Zhang Zheng on social networks. He said: "Zhang Zheng is my enlightenment mentor in the performing arts industry. When I was young, my family loved watching TV series on Lili TV... Although he always spoke Cantonese, the audience only I will focus on his vivid acting skills." Ou Jintang enrolled in the "Asian Television Training Academy", where Zhang Zheng taught drama courses. Zhang Zheng often said: "What to film, what to look like", "acting on stage, being a person off stage", the purpose is to ask students to respect the performing arts.
