He was the brother of the designer of Asterix, who died less than a year ago Born on December 23, 1933, in Clichy-sous-Bois, France, designer Marcel Uderzo passed away today, at the age of 87. He was one of the younger brothers of Albert Uderzo, co-creator of Asterix, who died on March 24th.

Belonging to a family of Italian emigrants, he should have succeeded his father in the family business of restoring string instruments, but a disagreement with his father made him become his brother's assistant, painting and coloring his boards, first in series "Tanguy et Laverdure", and later on some albums of "Astérix". The last in which he collaborated was "Asterix among the Belgians", being his parody of Bruegel the Elder, which appears in the final pages. According to legend, it was in him that Albert Uderzo was inspired to draw the Druid Panoramix.

In the 1970s, Marcel Uderzo was responsible for the design of various advertising material and products derived from Asterix, for the Dargaud editions. It was during this period that he adapted the animated film "The Twelve Works of Astérix" (1976) for the newspaper "Sud Ouest" in BD. As the work did not have any intervention by the official designer of the series, it was never integrated into the main chronology, but it was even translated in several countries, including Portugal, where it appeared on the pages of the magazine "Flecha 2000".

In 1979, when Albert Uderzo created his studio after Goscinny's death, the two brothers fell out and Marcel decided to invest in a solo career.

His bibliography includes dozens of albums, most of which are in a realistic style on historical, aviation or sport themes. He also carried out some adaptations of famous novels, including "The Last of the Mohicans" (2010), by James Fenimore Cooper, which will integrate the collection "Classics of Literature in BD", which is being published between us in a partnership between Levoir and RTP.

"Nationale 7, from Paris to Menton!", A trip down a historic road made famous by the song "Nationale 7", by Charles Trenet, was his last work, having participated in the fourth volume, released in October last year.
