Chad Stuart was born David Stuart Chadwick on December 10, 1941 in Windermere, Westmorland, (England) and passed away on December 20, 2020 as a result of pneumonia. He formed the duo Chad & Jeremy with Jeremy Clyde, born Michael Thomas Jeremy Clyde, on March 22, 1941 in Dorney, Buckinghamshire (England). With more success in the US than in their own country, they formed a duo with Merseybeat essence and moments of folk giving life to beautiful melodies with fantastic voices and very elegant arrangements.

They debuted in 1963 under the production of John Barry, and the single for Ember Records "Yesterday's Gone", written by Chad and Wendy Kidd. That same year they released “Like I Love You Today”, a song composed by Chad and Russell Alquist. The following year, the albums “Yesterday's Gone” (1964) and “Chad & Jeremy Sings For You” (1964), with “No Other Baby” were released. They also released "If I Loved You," an adaptation of a Hammerstein / Rodgers song, as well as "Willow Weed For Me," a song written by Ann Ronell, and "A Summer Song." Precious songs that were followed in 1965 with "What Do You Want With Me?", Composed by Chad and Jeremy, the last with Ember after which they went to CBS.

It was with the ballad "Before And Ater", composed by Van McCoy, with which they triumphed in the United States. That 1965 saw the light of the LP's "Before And After" with the version of "For Lovin 'Me" by Gordon Lightfoot, and "I Don't Want To Lose You, Baby" (1965). They also released in the EEYY with World Artists "From a Window" by Paul McCartney. Jeremy embarked on a solo career in parallel releasing the single "I Love My Love."

During 1966 they recorded the songs "Teenage Failure", "Distant Shores" and "You Are She" plus the LP's "More Chad & Jeremy" (1966) and "Distant Shores" (1966). Already in 1967 with the entry of psychedelia, the duo recorded a concept album for Columbia entitled "Of Cabbages And Kings" (1967), produced by Gary Usher. It was unsuccessful. It was followed by "The Ark" (1968). The following year they decided to separate and would resume the project in the eighties.

Clyde returned to England and began acting. I have enjoyed great success in New York in Broadway theater productions. Stuart remained in the US working on arrangements and production. His first job was music director for the Smothers Brothers television show and later was a producer for A&M Records. The pair met again in 1977 to record some demos, but the collaboration was brief and the recordings were not released.

In 1982, Chad & Jeremy got together to record an album that was released the following year on the Rocshire Records label distributed by MCA. Plans for a second album in 1984 were unsuccessful because the label suddenly went bankrupt. Returning to the United States in 1986 for a British Invasion reunion tour, Chad & Jeremy played 33 cities in six weeks alongside other merseybeat groups such as Gerry & The Pacemakers. In 1987, Chad & Jeremy completed a two-week residency at a Nevada location, before separating again.

In 2002, Stuart was in his private studio preparing to release a live recording when Clyde visited him and the two recorded a new version of “Yesterday's Gone” as a bonus track on the album “In Concert (The Official Bootleg)”. In 2003 they met again. They sang live and re-recorded several of their songs from the sixties reunited in an album called “Ark-eology” (2008) released on the 40th anniversary of The Ark. Chad & Jeremy performed at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah in January 2009. In September 2010 they celebrated the anniversary of their first meeting with a limited edition CD titled "Fifty Years On." After 15 years of semi-regular touring, Stuart retired to his home in Sun Valley, Idaho. Clyde continued to sing as a soloist with a backing band, intertwining songs by Chad and Jeremy with more recent music from his own multi-album series, "The Bottom Drawer Sessions." He also tours as part of a duo, performing nostalgic concerts with one of his friends, Peter Asher of Peter & Gordon.
