RIP Jonas Mello

Actor Jonas Mello dies at 83 in SP 

Artist was found dead in his apartment in Santana, North Zone of the capital. The actor's sister claims he even called a cousin after feeling sick. Family says Jonas died of natural causes.

Actor Jonas Mello was found dead in his apartment in Santana, North Zone of São Paulo, late Wednesday afternoon (18). He was 83 years old. The information was confirmed to TV Globo by the artist's sister, Josefina Rodrigues de Mello.

According to Josefina, Jonas was sick and called a cousin. When the relative arrived at the scene, Jonas had already passed away. Family says he died of natural causes. 

Josefina says that her brother led a healthy life and had no health problems. Lately, he dedicated himself to dubbing films.

Jonas was single and childless. In addition to Josefina, she leaves two other sisters. The body must be veiled after 2 pm at the Santos Memorial Cemetery, on the coast of São Paulo. The burial is expected to occur at 18h. 

His last job on TV was playing a henchman on TV Globo's soap opera “Flor do Caribe”, in 2013.

Jonas Mello was born in São Paulo, on October 20, 1937. He started his career in television in 1969, in the production “A cabana do Pai Tomás”, on TV Globo.

At Record, he made “The gods are dead”, “Yellow sun”, “Time does not fade”, “The leopard”, “Vendaval”, “Marked lives” “Fire star”, “For love and hate”, “Slave Isaura ”and the miniseries“ The challenge of Elias ”. 

At Tupi (now extinct), Mello worked on "The Innocent", "My rich Portuguese", "The apostles of Judas", "Um Sol Maior" and "João Brasileiro, o bom baiano".

At Globo , he participated in “Os giants”, “Chega mais”, “Coração alado”, “Baila with me”, “Terras do sem fim”, “Partido alto”, “O outro”, “Bambolê”, “Pacto deangue ”,“ Barriga for rent ”,“ The bearer ”,“ Gentle poison ”,“ Vila Madalena ”,“ Araguaia ”,“ O Astro ”and“ Salve Jorge”. 

In Culture, he acted in "The Colonel and the Werewolf" and "Paiol Velho".

In SBT he made the soap operas "Conflito", "Chained", "Jogo do amor" and "Dona Anja".

At Bandeirantes, he was part of the cast of “Maçã do amor”. 

At Manchete (extinct), he worked on "Dona Beija" and "Mandacaru".

At CNT / Gazeta, he acted in the miniseries “Irmã Catarina” and “Ele vive” and the soap operas “A último semana” and “Antônio dos milagres”. 

In cinema, he acted in “O Cangaceiro” (1997) and “Lula, the son of Brazil” (2010). He was also a voice actor for several films and cartoons.

The funeral and burial will take place this Thursday (19), at the Santos Memorial cemetery. The schedules, however, have not yet been defined.
