Catalan actor Francesc Garrido, of "The Sea Inside", "Clans" and dozens of other productions, dies at the age of 56

The performer, who has just been part of the cast of "The Host" with Willem Dafoe, suffered a heart attack

Theatre, television and film actor Francesc Garrido, who participated in films such as The Sea Inside and this year in The Host, starring Willem Dafoe, has died at the age of 56 due to a heart attack, sources in the film sector told EFE on Monday.

Born in Barcelona on September 7, 1969, Francesc Garrido had made his debut in the theater in 1990 with the play Alfons Quart, on television he began his career in the TV3 series Estació d'enllaç in 1996 and, in the cinema he appeared in 1999 in the film La ciudad de los prodigios.

Trained at the Institut del Teatre and at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), he had an extensive career, playing characters of different registers both in theatre and television, where he participated in twenty series, and in cinema.

His television career was prolific since he appeared in Estació d'enllaç more than thirty years ago and he could also be seen in other series such as Cites, Majoria absoluta, on Catalan television, as well as in Los hombres de Paco, Gran Reserva, El tiempo entre costurasor in 2017 in Sé quién eres, for whose leading role, the lawyer Juan Elías Giner, was nominated for the Feroz Awards.

Other productions in which he participated were Clanes, where he played Inspector Naranjo, La novia gitana, based on the novel of the same name by Carmen Mola, or Jaguar.

In the field of the performing arts, he was closely linked to the Teatre Lliure and its director, Àlex Rigola, who directed him in works such as Glengarry Glen Ross, 'El mestre i la margarita', and 'Dublineros (Els morts)', but he participated in works with other directors such as Lluís Pasqual or George Lavaudant.

In the cinema he participated in some thirty films, in addition to those already mentioned, 'Te doy mis ojos', 'Smoking Room', by Roger Gual and Julio D. Wallovits, with which he won the Silver Biznaga at the Malaga Festival, Stella cadente, with which he was nominated for the Gaudí Award for best supporting actor, or in L'adopció, with which he was also nominated for the Gaudí Award for Best Leading Actor.

Recently, in addition to appearing in The Host, he was in Balandrau, vent salvatge, by Fernando Trullols.

Upon learning of his death, through social networks, the Catalan Film Academy has joined the mourning for his loss and has supported his family, friends and the entire film community at this time.
