German actress of film and television Barbara Adolph died in Berlin on June 19th a few weeks after her 95th birthday.
During her acting training, Barbara Adolph already received role offers as a supporting actress in film and television productions, before she first participated on a theatre stage in Greiz in 1952. Later followed engagements in Gera, Karl-Marx-Stadt and the Deutsches Theater Berlin. At the same time, she developed into a popular actress in DEFA feature films in the 1960s, especially in comedies.
In 1978 she moved from the GDR to West Germany. She became a freelance actress at the Renaissance Theatre in West Berlin. In addition, she was mainly seen in television productions such as our teacher Doctor Specht and Liebling Kreuzberg.
Barbara Adolph made a name for herself mainly as a voice actor. She has already synchronized several times for the DEFA in the GDR and also took over numerous synchronous roles after she moved to the Federal Republic. So she spoke several times Vanessa Redgrave, Louise Fletcher, Marian Seldes, Vera Miles and Lauren Bacall. Since the retirement of Bettina Schön, she has taken over the dubbing of several actresses, such as Maggie Smith and Olympia Dukakis. In television series, Adolph also dubbed Ellen Geer, Joanna Miles, Fionnula Flanagan and Claudette Nevins several times. In total, she stood for over 700 castors behind the microphone.
In 2021, Barbara Adolph retired.
