Renowned Mexican actor Ernesto Gómez Cruz dies

The artistic world of Mexico is in mourning for the loss of who was considered one of its great actors, Ernesto Gómez Cruz, who died on April 6, at the age of 90. It was the National Association of Actors of Mexico that was in charge of announcing the death of this celebrity.

"The National Association of Actors regrets the sensitive death of our colleague Ernesto Gómez Cruz," the guild reported on its Instagram and X accounts. "Our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. The artistic community in Mexico today suffers the loss of a great artist and colleague. May Ernesto Gómez Cruz rest in peace."

Gómez Cruz was born in Veracruz, Mexico, on November 7, 1933. His first professional job was as a photographer; Later, through a friend, he was introduced to the dramatic arts. Thus, he moved to the Aztec capital where he studied acting at the National Institute of Fine Arts. Although he had musical interests, he discarded them because he considered that he did not have enough preparation.

He made his film debut in 1967 with the film Los caifanes, where his performance as El Azteca earned him the national Silver Goddess Award. Subsequently, he would obtain other awards and recognitions such as the Ariel.

From then on, the famous man began an important career in the seventh art with titles such as The Barefoot Eagle, Tivoli, Canoe, Acts of Marusia, Kill the Lion; Portrait of a Married Woman and The Alley of Miracles, among others.

On television, the actor starred in the telenovela El padre Gallo and, in addition, he was part of the cast of other melodramas such as Mi segunda madre, La candidata, Mi adorable maldición and Por amar sin ley, to mention just a few.

At the moment, the causes of death of Ernesto Gómez Cruz, who is survived by his daughters Guadalupe and Victoria, are unknown.
