Anthony Hickox, an English actor, film producer and director, was found dead in his Bucharest apartment. The filmmaker, known for directing Waxwork (1988), Warlock: The Armageddon (1993) and Payback (1995), was married to actress Madalina Anea.
Anthony Hickox, 64, had retired for some years to Romania, where he spent most of his time. He had a rented apartment in the Victoria area, although he owned an impressive property in Los Angeles, John Lenon's first home since the Beatles.
The filmmaker was found dead in the Bucharest apartment, yet the cause of death has not yet been established. Those close to him knew that Anthony Hickox was a heavy drinker.
In 2015, Anthony Hickox directed the film Exodus to Shanghai, starring actresses Maia Morgenstern, Ana Maria Popa and Mădălina Anea. After working together on the film, Hickox and Madalina Anea got married. Their marriage did not last and they decided to go their separate ways.
In 2021, Hickox filmed in Romania with Billy Zane, for the film Rupture the Movie.
Anthony Hickox was born in 1959 in Hampstead, London, the son of famous filmmakers: director Douglas Hickox and Anne V. Coates, the two-time Oscar-winning film editor. His mother is famous for working on the film Lawrence of Arabia (1962), for which she received her first Oscar.
In 2015, at age 89, Anne V. Coates worked on editing Fifty Shades of Grey, and upon retirement she received an honorary Oscar. He died on May 8, 2018, at the age of 92.
Hickox had two younger brothers, Emma E. Hickox and James D.R. Hickox.
