Hong Kong actor Mang Hoi passes away at the age of 65 after battling esophageal cancer

10th October 2023 – (Hong KOng) Hong Kong actor Mang Hoi, known for his roles in classic films such as “Vampire Expert”, has passed away at the age of 65. Mang, whose birth name was Mang Jinghai was a renowned action actor and had previously won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 5th Hong Kong Film Awards. His death on October 9, 2023, was a result of oesophageal cancer.

Mang Hoi had been experiencing discomfort for the past year and was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. During his final two months, he endured great hardship, while his wife and 17-year-old daughter provided him with unwavering care and companionship. Despite his daughter still being in school, Mang Hoi’s close friends rallied together to raise funds for his medical expenses and are assisting with the funeral arrangements.

Mang Hoi’s niece, Ball Mang Hei-lun confirmed the news of his passing in an interview with local media. She expressed that her uncle had been aware of his diagnosis since last year and had made every effort to overcome the illness. She described his passing as peaceful and acknowledged the tremendous dedication of her aunt and cousin in caring for Mang Hoi. She also mentioned that their family had gradually come to terms with the possibility of his departure over the past six months. Although his passing is undoubtedly a difficult moment, they all hope that he has found peace and relief from the pain he endured. Ball expressed her gratitude to the many doctors, senior colleagues in the entertainment industry, and members of the martial arts community who had provided medical assistance, support, and visits during her uncle’s illness.
