The actress Mercedes Carreño, recognized in the artistic world
as Meche Carreño, lost her life at the age of 74, after being taken to the
hospital in an emergency a few days ago.
“The family of actress Meche Carreño
confirmed the news and explained that she died yesterday, Thursday, July 21, in
the United States due to liver cancer. She was hospitalized for
anemia three days ago and did not survive, ”reported TV Azteca.
Meche, born in Veracruz on September 15, 1947, decided to leave
the spotlight on television in 1980, although on some occasions she made
special appearances in the movies or on television, as was the case of Desde
Gayola, one of the last programs to who provided an interview.
The actress was an indisputable reference in Mexican cinema as
she was considered a sex symbol and one of the bravest figures when posing in a
"monokini" in the 60s.
Carreño participated in approximately 25 films, among which
'There are no crosses in the sea', 'The enemy blood', 'The other virginity' and
'La Choca de Emilio 'El Indio' Fernández' stand out.
Among her latest major projects we can mention her collaboration
on the film 'El Noa Noa', where she was lovingly linked with Juan Gabriel, with
whom she also worked on the video clip 'I have come to ask you for forgiveness'
and the film 'Es mi vida. Rest in peace'.
