THEATER The actor Walter Maestosi, who divided himself between cinema, theater and television, combining his work as an interpreter with those of voice actor and theater director, died in Rome at the age of 87. The funeral was celebrated today in the Roman church of the artists in Piazza del Popolo.

The beginnings of Maestosi in the theater

Born in Rome on September 24, 1934, after graduating in law, Maestosi graduated in 1960 from the National Academy of Dramatic Art and began his career in theater, directed, among others, by directors Silverio Blasi , Guido Salvini , Orazio Costa , Edmo Fenoglio and Mario Landi , landing almost immediately also in the radio prose of Rai. Particularly active in this area, he participated for Radio Rai in more than a thousand productions including radio dramas, comedies and cultural programs of various kinds.

Widower of the actress Laura Gianoli (under whose direction he recorded the thirty-three songs of Dante's inferno in seven CDs), he was active as a voice actor mainly for the SAS. With the singer and actress Daniela Barra he was the promoter of the theatrical project dedicated to poetry Narciso and Eco. With the soprano Alma Manera , on the other hand, he interpreted and directed the recital written by Corrado Calabrò T'amo di due amori .

Between cinema and television

In the second half of the 1960s, Walter Maestosi became a well-known face of black and white television by participating in many Rai dramas, such as ‘Le inchieste del commissario MaigretRitorna il tenente SheridanSheridan, squadra omicidiUn certo Harry BrentNero WolfeLa donna di picche.

Walter Maestosi has also acted in the cinema: he appeared in about thirty films including ‘Ringo's Big Night’, ‘El Rojo’, ‘Kill Rommel’ and ‘The Long Cold Beach’.

He was also a voice actor: he lent his voice, among others, to Max von Sydow in ‘Kojak - Murderer on the Loose’,  ‘I'm Not Sleepy’,  ‘Druids - The Revolt’.
