A dear and precious friend Ferruccio Castronuovo has left us.

A true master, screenwriter, director, actor, assistant to Fellini for a decade, historical consultant and screenwriter of "The legacy of the Prioress" from the novel by Carlo Alianello, adhering to our southern network of the Carta di Venosa.

A few months ago he had realized a dream thanks to the friends of Vico del Gargano, whom he never ceased to thank: the publication of his only novel on the tragic events of the Risorgimento The South Wind Smells of Love and Death".

On November 17, 2021 at the Fulgor Cinema in Rimini the “A Fellinian in the World” award was presented to dear Ferruccio Castronuovo, as a long-time collaborator of Federico Fellini.

Rita Selvaggio, councilor for culture of Vico del Gargano, the town in which he lived the last few years, remembers him with these words:“Ferruccio is no more. He leaves an unbridgeable void, both from a cultural and a cinematographic point of view. I will never forget our chats about Vico, his passionate tales about him and the emotionally filled anecdotes about Fellini. I will miss his determination about him, his passion about him and his great desire to do. Goodbye, Master, he rests in peace ".

The director Lorenzo Sepalone, struck by the death of his friend writes: "With the death of Ferruccio Castronuovo, Puglia, the province of Foggia, the Gargano loses a multifaceted and original artist, a cultured and charismatic man who has never stopped chasing his dreams. I must say, with bitterness, that many have not understood its greatness. With the death of Ferruccio I lose a friend and I abandon the project of “I, Ferruccio and Federico”, a short film that I intended to shoot in Vico del Gargano based on the life and cinema stories of this extraordinary man. Ferruccio. I will remember you forever."

The journalist friend and cultural promoter Michele Angelicchio remembers him like this: "Goodbye Ferrucio. You got tired of waiting for the ghost of your friend Fellini, so you decided to go to meet him. In the cinema paradise, together with Giulietta Masina, Marcello Mastroianni and Federico, there was an empty chair, you have occupied it. Now you will finally be happy. Goodbye Ferruccio, goodbye friend, friend, friend ..."

On the page of the Cineteca di Rimini he is remembered with these words:"Farewell to Ferruccio Castronuovo. Fellini trusted him. He appreciated its discretion of him, he admired its technique. For over ten years, between the mid-seventies and the mid-eighties, Castronuovo was the shadow of Fellini, the eye that spied on him, followed and recorded him on the sets of Casanova, "La città delle donne", and "Ginger and Fred", giving back, those processes, the atmosphere and the joyful excitement. They are precious materials and accurate documents partly merged and forever saved in the recent and successful documentary by Silvia Giulietti Fellinopolis. In Rimini Castronuovo had been invited several times, first by the Fellini Foundation, then by the Cineteca Comunale and lastly, last year, as a guest of the Amarcort Film Festival which awarded him the “A Fellini in the World” award. We remember him with affection and gratitude."

The director Silvia Giulietta expresses her pain: “Today Ferruccio Castronuovo has left us.
I have spent the last two years with him working on Fellinopolis. He had become part of the family. Until the end he had projects to carry out, many ideas, and his love for Fellini has never abandoned him. I am happy that, even if late, he has crowned his dream of being awarded as "A Felliniand in the World" in Rimini in the Fulgor cinema. Dear Ferruccio, it was wonderful to share the last years of your life and your story. You will always remain in the film Fellinopolis in your world, surrounded by your wonderful images and you will remain as an example to posterity.I will divulge as much as possible so that your masterful work continues to live.

Who knows if Fellini won't welcome you up there. Hello friend and teacher. The promoters of the southern network of the Venosa Charter express their deepest condolences to the family and cultural community of the Gargano.
