The popular director Mariano Laurenti left on the afternoon of Thursday 6 January to his home in Gubbio. He was born in Rome on April 15, 1929. He was a successful film director and screenwriter. He made his debut as assistant director in the 1950s, alongside professionals such as Mauro Bolognini, Mario Mattoli, Camillo Mastrocinque, Dino Risi and Steno.

He directed Lino Banfi in about ten films, to whom he was very close and who learned the sad news while preparing to participate in the Soliti Ignoti Speciale Lotteria Italia broadcast on Rai Uno. He was the director of the famous films called musicarelli, then of the couple Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia, to move on to the Italian sexy comedy of the seventies. He was also the mentor of the Neapolitan artist Nino D 'Angelo who he directed in several films.

He moved to Gubbio with his wife in 2006 after his son Andrea had settled in the city in the troupe of the fiction "Don Matteo". In 2016 the Municipality decided to give them an award, just to underline the special ten-year bond, on 29 October on the occasion of the thirty-fifth edition of the national exhibition of white truffles and agro-food products, at the Santo Spirito service center in the event. “The city meets Mariano Laurenti - Tribute to the director who has entertained entire generations with the films of the so-called Italian sexy comedy” on the initiative of the mayor Filippo Mario Stirati.

On that occasion he wanted to pay homage to Lino Banfi and various films were proposed on the most famous comedies which, from the end of the seventies to the mid-eighties, entertained and even made Italians dream with seductive actresses and comic personalities, who made these films real cult of national cinema. The funeral will be celebrated on Saturday 8 January at 11 in the church of San Secondo and will rest in the city cemetery
