The actor Mario Valdemarin, a great theatrical interpreter who grew up at the school of Giorgio Strehler, protagonist of many costume films of the golden age of Cinecittà 'Hollywood sul Tevere' and of numerous Rai dramas, died this morning at the Umberto I hospital in Rome at the age of 97.
Hospitalized since December 5 in the Infectious Diseases department of the Capitoline polyclinic, Valdemarin had contracted Covid, according to what Adnkronos learned.
The funeral will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, December 13, at 3 p.m., in the Roman church of San Bellarmino in the Parioli district.
Born in Romans d'Isonzo (Grorizia) on 30 December 1926 (some biographies erroneously report the date 31 December 1931), Mario Valdemarin, endowed with a beautiful presence and charm, had begun his career in the early 50s as an interpreter of photonovels and before embarking on a career as an actor he had had a certain notoriety in 1957 as a champion in Mike Bongiorno's television show "Lascia o raddoppia?", where he presented himself as an expert in western films.
Valdemarin was a member of Strehler's Compagnia dei Giovani, acting in some historical performances staged by the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, in particular Carlo Goldoni's comedies "Le baruffe chiozzotte" and "Harlequin servant of two masters". He returned to the Piccolo Teatro many years later, in 1988, with Luigi Pirandello's "Come tu mi vuoi". Constantly engaged on stage until the 90s, his theatrical repertoire includes "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes, "Ghosts" by Henrik Ibsen, "Death of a Traveling Salesman" by Arthur Miller, "The Torch Under the Bushel" by Gabriele d'Annunzio, "Winter's Tale" by William Shakespeare, "Mandrake" by Niccolò Machiavelli, "A Love in Rome" by Ercole Pa
