The Polonia Theatre announced that Zofia Merle died in the Wola hospital in Warsaw. Recently, she had been struggling with a serious illness. Zofia Merle is known to viewers m.in from the films "What Will You Do to Me When You Catch Me" and "Teddy Bear". She also appeared in the TV series "Chłopi" and "Alternatywy 4". Younger audiences may have known her from her role in the soap opera "Klan", where she played the charismatic Mrs. Stenia for over 15 years. In 2018, she briefly returned to the role, but later retired from professional life.
For many years she was associated with the Warsaw "Comedy", and in 1984 Stanisław Tym engaged her at the Dramatic Theatre in Elbląg. She worked with Tym in the following productions: "Laundry" (Zmien) and "Mississippi" (Buffet). For many years she collaborated with Romuald Szejd's "Scena Prezentacje" Theatre.Sophie Merle is dead. There are authorities for great things, and Merle is for making people laugh," she said in an interview with Viva, adding with her characteristic sense of humour: "Deep down, I'm just a housewife who earns extra money as an actress."
