Renato Scarpa, the actor who has entered the hearts of Italians, has died playing the role of Sergio, Verdone’s friend in “A beautiful lot”, reluctant to leave with the protagonist for the improvised mid-August holidays in Poland. This was announced by the Messenger. According to what the Roman newspaper writes “Renato Scarpa died in his home in Rome, in the Monteverde district “.

Scarpa was a character actor, he had made his debut on the big screen in the late ’70s; with Trooisi he had played the role of Robertino in the film “Ricomincio da tre”.

From what was reconstructed Scarpa felt ill in the early afternoon; the family members immediately called a 118 ambulance. The carabinieri also arrived on the spot. Death is attributed to natural causes.

Scarpa’s career, however, cannot be reduced to two – albeit important – films. In his career he has worked in many highly regarded films and with many important directors.

He is the severe Father Corazza in the grotesque “Nel nome del padre” (1972) by Marco Bellocchio, the inflexible Dominican father Alberto Tragagliolo in “Giordano Bruno” by Giuliano Montaldo (1973), the mysterious professor Verdegast in the disturbing Suspiria (1977) by Dario Argento, the director of the upper post office and friend of the protagonist there “Il Postino” (Troisi’s latest film) by Michael Radford; the priest grappling with everyday life in the bittersweet “West of Donald Duck” (1982) by Alessandro Benvenuti, Dr. Cazzaniga in “So Spoke Bellavista” (1984) and in “The Mystery of Bellavista” (1985), both by Luciano De Crescenzo.

He also plays the protagonist’s apprehensive father in the entertaining “Stefano Quantestorie” (1993) by Maurizio Nichetti, the task principal in the drama “The Son’s Room” (2001) by Nanni Moretti, the banker with gastroenterological problems in the Neapolitan culinary comedy “Ribelli per chance” (2001) by Vincenzo Terracciano, and the Cardinal Dean Gregori in the film “Habemus Papam” by Nanni Moretti (2011).
