RIP Antonio Salines


Theater actor, Antonio Salines has died, he worked with Carmelo Bene and Vittorio Gasmann

Antonio Salines, the great theater actor, director, former artistic director of the Teatro Belli, has died. He was born in La Spezia on 1 July 1936. In 2019 he won a Golden Mask of the Theater award as best actor. Salines, graduated from the Silvio D'Amico Academy of Dramatic Art in 1959 and founded in the same year with Carmelo Bene one of the first self-managed companies: “I Ribelli”. He made his debut in the part of Scipio in Camus's “Caligula”.

In his long career he worked with Vittorio Gasmann, brought prose to TV with Pirandello and Rozov, has trod the stages of the Piccolo Teatro of Milan, of the Arena of Verona of the Stabili of Bolzano and of the Veneto. He was the artistic director of the Teatro Belli in Rome, with the homonymous company he founded in 1970 with Magda Mercatali; as well as from 2015 the Theater Season of the Teatro Gentile di Cittanova.
