Hugh ("Dewey") William Binyon, 88, passed away March 20, 2021 in an
Austin, Texas hospital. He was born April 1932 in Los Angeles, California to
William A. Binyon and Ann Dorothy (Zelichkovices) Binyon.
Until 2019, when he moved to Smithville, Texas, he had lived his entire life in
Los Angeles County. As a young boy living in the Hollywood area, he had brief
appearances in film productions, including the "Our Gang" series.
Hugh excelled in high school athletics playing baseball and football, achieving
Los Angeles All-City recognition and going on to play at the University of
Southern California.
Hugh joined the Los Angeles Police Department where he rose to the level of
Sergeant and had many interesting experiences which he recounted in his book,
"Reflections in a Pig's Eye", that includes many witty poems poking
fun at colleagues and command which sometimes proved troublesome for him.
Hugh's police experience was also shared with Hollywood as a consultant for
episodes of the 1960's "Dragnet" television series. After the LAPD,
he carried on in investigative work for the State of California as well as
being a private investigator.
Hugh is survived by his brother, Conrad Binyon; daughter, Bambi Weinberg-Tuttle
and her husband Tommy and their children, Jennifer and Justin; son, Bryan
Binyon and his wife Trina and their children, Taylor and Audrey; step daughter,
Dawn Burke and her daughters, Danielle and Elizabeth; and step son, Samuel Hone
and his family. Hugh is preceded in death by his daughter Bambi's son, Jeremy
Weinberg.
Any memorial services will be limited to family members. The family requests
any memorial donations be directed your local animal rescue services in
recognition of Hugh's love for animals.
