The man of the theater, who died on September 30 at the age of 84, has performed nearly one hundred and fifty roles and signed more than a dozen productions.

Actor Simon Eine, honorary member of the Comédie-Française, died at the age of 84. “ I have just learned with great sadness of the death [on September 30] of one of our honorary members, Simon Eine, writes Eric Ruf , the general administrator of the Comédie-Française. Many of us remember this elder who left the Troupe a few years ago”. The man of the theater has interpreted nearly a hundred and fifty roles and signed more than a dozen productions.

For Simon Eine, it all started at the age of 17, when after having already had ten professions, he discovered the National Popular Theater directed by Jean Vilar. From then on, he only dreams of getting on the boards. He took turns attending the Dullin School, the Center d'Art Dramatique de la rue Blanche and the Conservatory of Dramatic Art.

Fresh out of the Conservatory, he joined the Comédie-Française on September 1, 1960. He rubbed shoulders with the most illustrious authors such as Shakespeare, Corneille, Marivaux, Hugo, Beckett and Giraudoux. However, he does not shy away from contemporaries: Jean-Claude Grumberg with Maman returns, poor orphan in 1994, Marguerite Duras with Le Square in 1995 or Copi with Une visite inopportune in 2001.

On television, he has appeared in Le Capitaine Fracasse by Philippe Joulial, Fin de droit by Dominique Tabuteau, Nestor Burma by Pierre Koralnik and, in the cinema, in La Nuit du destin by Abdelkrim Bahloul, Requiem by Hervé Renoh or Elle s 'Sarah from Gilles Paquet-Brenner called.

In 2012, he published the collection of memories Des étoiles Plein les Pockets. He recounts his experiences as a child of immigrants, then his “artisan career” within the Comédie-Française troupe. As an honorary member, after 44 years of “Maison”, Simon Eine returns to the stage of the Comédie-Française for readings at the Studio-Théâtre and the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier.

Simon dragged his athletic strength and his touchy nature on our sets for years, then the stentor actor went through hardships and we discovered him more naked, taking full advantage of the quality of his gaze and his nature at last appeased, writes Eric Ruf, in his tribute. I remember his departure, of rare elegance. Since then he has kept constant contact with our House, writing often, always being interested”. The boss of the Maison de Molière has indicated that the performances of this Thursday, October 1 will be dedicated to him.
