Film producer Marichu Vera-Perez Maceda died on Monday, Sept
7. She was 77.
Her sisters, Gina de Venecia and Lilibeth Vera -Perez
Nakpil, confirmed the news to ABS-CBN. Marichu died due to kidney
complications and heart disease.
Marichu, daughter of Sampaguita Pictures head Jose
Vera-Perez, is considered an icon in the film industry. She worked as a
producer for films such as Batch 81. She was previously married
to the late senator Ernesto Maceda and they have 5 children.
Fondly called "Manay Ichu" in the film industry,
she helped organize the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND), Metro
Manila Film Festival, the Film
Academy of the
Philippines (FAP), the Philippine Motion Picture Producers Association (PMPPA),
and the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP) among others.
