Leonardo Villar, a 96-year-old actor, died this Friday morning in São Paulo, victim of a cardiac arrest. The information was confirmed to G1 by his relatives.
Leonardo Villar, a 96-year-old actor, died this Friday morning in São Paulo, victim of a cardiac arrest. The information was confirmed to G1 by his relatives.
He was admitted to the ICU on Thursday, after not feeling well the night before. The actor's body will be cremated, as he wishes, and there will be no wake, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Born in Piracicaba, in the interior of São Paulo, in 1923, he gained notoriety when playing the character Zé do Burro, protagonist of the film "O Pagador de Promessas" (1962). Directed by Anselmo Duarte and nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1963, the film also won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Before going to the cinema, Dias Gomes's text was interpreted in the theater and Villar was already Zé do Burro.
With the name of Leonildo Motta, Leonardo Villar was a student at the School of Dramatic Art (EAD) at USP, where he graduated from the class of 1948.
Villar worked at the Brazilian Comedy Theater (TBC) for eight years and debuted as a professional actor directed by Bibi Ferreira at Companhia Dramática Nacional (CDN) with the play "A Raposa e as Uvas".
Right at the beginning of his career, he continued working with big names in the theater as director Sérgio Cardoso in "Canção Dentro do Pão". He also participated in "A Falecida", by Nelson Rodrigues.
On television, Leonardo Villar made more than
thirty novels, such as "Estúpido Cupido" (1976), "Barriga de
Renda" (1990), "Amazônia" (1991), "Laços de Família"
(2000). The last work on TV Globo was in the soap opera
"Passione" (2010).
Throughout his career, Villar has also participated in outstanding films such as "Lampião eo Rei do Cangaço" (1964), " A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga" (1965), "Ação entre Amigos" (1988), "Brava Gente Brasileira "(2000) and" Chega de Saudade "(2008).
