The Riviera delle Palme says goodbye to one of its most multifaceted protagonists. Nando Angelini, born in Porto d'Ascoli in 1933, passed away at the age of 91. Actor, director, television author: his life has been an intense journey, often out of the spotlight, but full of stories, encounters and significant turning points. The funeral will be held on Monday, August 4 at 4 p.m. at the Church of Christ the King.

Nando had grown up between San Benedetto del Tronto and Rome, where he had achieved cinematographic success by entering the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia at a very young age. He had shared the sets with Totò, Alberto Sordi and Sandra Milo, even if he himself tended to minimize that period: "In few films I had relevant parts".

The great missed opportunity, and never forgotten, was the leading role in the film never made on the Divine Comedy. He was supposed to play Dante Alighieri under the pseudonym of Jacopo Ristori. "It looked just like my train," he told us a year ago, but the project was rejected even before it started, after the flop of the drama with Giorgio Albertazzi.

That was the moment of the professional turning point. He abandoned cinema to devote himself to theater and documentaries, working for years in Rai with programs such as Scuola Aperta. He said proudly: "I could decide what to do". And in Rai he also made award-winning reportages, such as the one on the traveling circus school, which earned him the Moira Orfei award.

In the eighties he returned to San Benedetto, where he contributed to the birth and development of a local television, before the acquisition by the then Fininvest. But then he returned to Rome, where he continued his career until his retirement. He finally returned permanently to his hometown, alongside his wife Maria Ripani and their three daughters Simonetta, Emanuela and Paola.

A year ago he welcomed us into his home in Porto d'Ascoli. He did it with that intact curiosity that had always guided him, "when you come to see me, I'll ask you the first questions". He remembered the years of cinema, without nostalgia or regrets, with the serenity of those who chose without compromise.

The body, tomorrow, will arrive from the Civil Hospital of San Benedetto del Tronto and will be buried in the city cemetery.
