MEXICO CITY (AP) - Rosita Quintana, an Argentine nationalized Mexican actress who starred in films from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema such as “Calabacitas tender” and “Soy charro de Levita,” has died. She was 96 years old.

The National Association of Interpreters of Mexico reported the death of the actress on Monday on its Twitter account. The cause of his death was not specified.

Trinidad Rosa Quintana Muñoz was born in Buenos Aires on July 16, 1925. Besides being an actress, she was a composer and singer of ranchera music, tangos and boleros, with hits such as “Vámonos al parque Céfira”. In 1955, she won the Wurlitzer Prize for the best ranchero singer.

In the cinema, her credits include "Susana", "Serenade in Mexico", "When Mexico sings", "Don't defend me, compadre", "Ay, Palillo, do not rajes!", "A los cuatro vientos", " Where are you Love?" and "The doubt."

In addition to having a beauty that dazzled on screen, Quintana had a flair for comedy. In “Calabacitas tender” she gave life to Lupe, the maid capable of putting Tin Tan and his witticisms in her place, although they also took time to swing a trio with Willy, played by Ramón Valdés.

More recently she acted in the series "Así son las", "Peregrina" and "El Secreto de Alejandra". In 2016, the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences awarded her the Ariel de Oro for her career.

Quintana made her debut in the Argentine theater at the age of 15 and by 1947 she was already in Mexico, where she began with shows at the El Patio nightclub. The good acceptance of the local public made her establish her residence in the country, which she remembered with pleasure having traveled from end to end as an artist.

She married businessman Sergio Kogan, with whom she had a son, Nicolás, and adopted a daughter, Paloma.
