Welsh actress Christine Pritchard has died aged 79. The popular Gwynedd-born film and TV actress appeared on screen for decades and was best known for her role in children's show Rala Rwdins on S4C.

She starred in many Welsh language films and series including Glas y Dorlan, Pobol y Cwm, Anita and Un Bore Mercher, and she was also well-known to non-Welsh speaking viewers for her roles in Doctors and Stella, among other work.

Born in Caernarfon, Ms Pritchard attended Ysgol Syr Huw Owen, where she first became interested in drama. After studying English, Latin, and drama at Bristol University, she returned to Wales where she first starred on the small screen. Ms Pritchard, who also spent time as a teacher which took her to St Kitts in the Caribbean, went on to become a familiar face on S4C with her career as an actress spanning several decades.

Author, Fflur Dafydd, said: "Thank you for everything Christine. I fangirled her in the Gloworks toilets at 35 hours and couldn't stop going on about Ruth Gregory from Dinas and how I was making a dream come true working with her. So wonderful. So classy. It was a privilege and an honour to write for her."
