Tarcísio Meira died aged 85 as a result of Covid-19 this Thursday (12). The actor had been intubated since August 6, when he was admitted to the Albert Einstein hospital, in São Paulo, alongside Glória Menezes, who also underwent treatment for the disease.
The information about the death was confirmed by the artist’s advisor to the TV news. Meira was hospitalized in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of the medical unit and received continuous dialysis treatment. The actress, on the other hand, had only mild symptoms and had an evolution in her clinical condition.
Mocita Fagundes, Tarcísio Filho’s wife, said that the in-laws contracted the virus through an oversight. The post was deleted from Instagram hours later.
The couple received the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine in April. However, the veteran’s condition worsened. Meira already had a lung infection, which led to the release of the soap opera Pride and Paixão (2018), her last work on Globo.
The actor had more than 60 years of career. At Globo, he worked on more than 60 programs, including miniseries, specials and soap operas. He leaves his wife Glória Menezes, to whom he had been married since 1962, and his eldest son Tarcísio Filho.

Born in São Paulo, Tarcísio Pereira de Magalhães Sobrinho borrowed the surname Meira from his mother. In his youth, he intended to be a diplomat. However, he gave up on the idea when he failed the first test he took for Instituto Rio Branco, in 1957.
He began his artistic life in theater in A Hora Marcada (1957). He also performed in plays such as Chá e Simpatia (1957) andQuando as Paredes Falam (1957), until being invited to share the stage with Sérgio Cardoso (1925-1972) in Soldado Tanaka (1959).
He went to television in 1961, at the extinct TV Tupi, where he starred for the first time with Glória Menezes in Uma Pires Camargo (1961). The two were married the following year and have been together ever since.
Tarcisio and Glória are part of the history of national dramaturgy. In 1963, the couple left Tupi for Excelsior, in which they participated in the first daily soap opera on Brazilian television, 25499 Ocupado. At the station, he acted in nine more soap operas, including Ambição (1964), A Deusa Vencida (1965) and Almas de Pedra (1966), all by Ivani Ribeiro (1922-1995).
The couple debuted on Globo in 1967, in the soap opera Sangue e Areia, written by Janete Clair (1925-1983). The couple was present in another landmark moment in the history of TV in Brazil.
